Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under senior leadership direction, this position leads US federal, state and local HR related litigation and employee relations matters on a first chair basis or through the oversight of outside counsel. Responsible for assessing, implementing, and maintaining programs, policies, and practices to ensure that Sykes’ US Operations are in compliance with US federal, state and local HR related legal/regulatory policy and reporting regulations. Develops and oversees Sykes’ HR Compliance Program for US Operations to identify risk, ensure adherence with all applicable US federal, state and local HR related legal/regulatory and compliance requirements. Proactively tracks US federal, state and local HR related laws and regulations that affect the organization's policies, recommends proactive solutions and leads implementation efforts necessary to changes policies, procedures and internal controls.  Demonstrates expertise in a variety of US federal, state and local HR related legal concepts, practices, and procedures (for example, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA, WARN,), relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Proactively partners with all relevant business unit and operations personnel regarding all relevant activities/initiatives. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adheres to SYKES policies on ethics and integrity.

 

  • Leads US federal, state and local HR related litigation and employee relations matters on a first chair basis or through the oversight of outside counsel.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Sykes’ HR Compliance Program for US Operations. 
  • Assists in the assessment, implementation and maintenance of US federal, state and local HR related policies and procedures to reduce the risk of violation of company policies and applicable law.
  • Assists in the communication and visibility of Sykes’ HR Compliance Program for US Operations at all levels within Sykes.
  • Assists in the development of annual Audit Plan with Internal Audit Department as it relates to US Operations to ensure compliance with US federal, state and local HR related policies/procedures/key risk areas.  Directs remedial action as necessary.  
  • Assists in the assessment, development and implementation of effective, efficient and necessary training/education resources to applicable functional US areas.
  • Ensures that all Sykes US HR managers and their teams understand the scope of relevant laws and regulations and how to operate the business within legal boundaries.
  • Available to service and support US Operations on a real time basis, including travel as necessary (20-25%).
  • May perform other additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Juris Doctorate required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of US federal, state and local HR legal experience working for a large law firm, employment law boutique or multistate company.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge providing US federal, state and local HR law counseling and guidance on day-to-day operational and compliance issues, policies and processes (significant wage & hour law and/or federal contractor regulatory experience a plus).
  • Extensive first or second chair experience in US federal, state and local HR litigation and agency discrimination charge management including class action litigation.
  • Extensive experience managing employee relations and internal investigations matters.
